Recording interviews I attended

When I started job hunting in the Chinese labor market, I experienced reverse cultural shock dramatically.

Let’s talk about the disadvantages first.

  1. No one introduced themselves or their companies first. Every interview started with my introduction and a series of questions related to their business.

  2. The salary is not accurate as described in the job description.

  3. They care about my English competency, but no one tests me.

  4. The interviews make me feel like a guilty presumption. They question you a lot. No one cares if the work style or corporate culture matches my expectations.

  5. They care about my personal information. I feel a lack of respect for my privacy.

I was born and raised in China. I have enough mental preparation for all those disadvantages. So I don’t feel annoyed at all. Job interviews in August are more like a temperature test before I dive into the swimming pool. My expectations are simple and reasonable.

The 2 years of being an expat have made me a more flexible person. I gained disappointments as an expat in the Netherlands. More importantly, I learned how to cope with the gap between schools and workplaces, my expectations and the reality.

My goal in working is not to work for other people anymore. I hope I can make it until my 30s.
